Project Profile

Location: Delaware River in Trainer, about 10 miles southwest of downtown Philadelphia
Capacity: 9.25 mtpa & 185,000 bbl/day
Start-up Year: 2017

The Trainer Refinery straddles the communities of Trainer, Marcus Hook and Chester, Pennsylvania, along the Delaware River about 10 miles southwest of Philadelphia. It has played an integral role in these communities, and the energy industry, for more than a century.

• In 2001 Phillips acquired the refinery through purchase of Tosco.
• In 2011 ConocoPhillips announces that it is looking to sell the refinery.
• In 2012 Delta airline announces that it is to acquire the refinery.
• In 2013 the refinery receives its first delivery of Bakken crude.
• In 2014 Bridger signs 5 year agreement to supply Bakken crude.

Since 2012, the Trainer Refinery has focused mainly on the production of high-quality transportation fuels. In addition to jet fuel, the 185,000 BPD facility also produces gasoline, diesel, and home heating oil. A medium-complexity refinery, it currently processes primarily light, sweet crude from North America, which is vastly different than the crude slate historically processed there.

The project has the following refining units:

Crude & Vacuum
Heavy Cat Naphtha (HCN) Hydrotreating Unit
Fluid Catalytic Cracker (FCC)
Isocracker
Catalytic Reformer
Distillate Hydrotreaters
Naphtha Unit
Alky Unit

Operators:

Monroe Energy (Delta): 100% interest

Contractors:

KBR: Awarded a contract to provide EPC services for Tier 3 Ultra-Low-Sulfur Gasoline (ULSG) project. (September, 2016)
- Relocate and reconstruct an idle 60,000 bpd SCANfining™ unit from another facility to Monroe\'s refinery. The work is expected to be completed next year with a planned start-up of the unit in 2017.
