Project Profile
Location: Approximately 73 miles (117 kilometres) offshore southeast of New Orleans
Area: 23 square kilometres
Reserves: Over 125 MMboe
Depth: 7,062 feet (2,152 metres)
Fort Sumter is located in the Mississippi Canyon Block 566, approximately 73 miles (117 kilometres) offshore southeast of New Orleans, in a water depth of 7,062 feet (2,152 metres) to a total vertical drilling depth of 28,016 feet (8,539 metres) measured depth. The block is 23 square kilometres in size and is operated 100% by Shell 100%. An appraisal side-track well has been drilled to a depth of 29,200 feet (8,900 metres) measured depth. The initial estimated recoverable resources for the Fort Sumter well are more than 125 million boe. However, the operator believes that further appraisal drilling and planned wells in adjacent structures could “considerably increase” recoverable potential in the vicinity of the Fort Sumter well.
