Project Profile
Location: Squamish, British Columbia, Canada
Value: Undisclosed
Length: 47 kilometres (new pipe)
Start-up Year: 2020
In 2012, Pacific Energy approached FortisBC to evaluate the possibility of providing natural gas service to their proposed small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) project at the Woodfibre industrial site near Squamish. Pacific Energy plans to expand a portion of its existing natural gas distribution system that was constructed in 1990 to serve the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island. This would involve adding about 47 kilometres of new pipe beginning in northern Coquitlam and ending at the existing Woodfibre industrial site southwest of Squamish, and constructing a new compressor station in the Squamish area.
Squamish First Nation approved the environmental assessment agreement for the proposed pipeline that will supply natural gas to the Woodfibre LNG project in June 2016. The Squamish Nation chiefs and council voted to approve the environmental assessment agreement for the proposed Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre Gas pipeline project and issued an environmental certificate to FortisBC. There has not, as of yet been any mention in precise percentage interests in the project.
The western Canadian province of British Columbia officially granted an environmental approval for the pipeline that will supply natural gas to the Woodfibre LNG project. (August, 2016)
