Project Profile
Value: US$900 million
Location: National Petroleum Reserve, Alaska, North America
Production: 30,000 BOPD
Start-up Year: 2018 - 2023 (Willow discovery)
GMT1, in the Greater Mooses Tooth Unit in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, will be an Alpine satellite connected by road to CD5. The development will include a new gravel pad, a 7.7-mile road, and pipelines connecting to CD5. GMT1 will have eight wells to start with and capacity for up to 33. Oil will be processed through the existing Alpine facilities.
In April 2013 ConocoPhillips planned to engage in the regulatory and permitting phase of GMT1, as well as continue to progress the engineering for ultimate project approval. Permits were submitted in July 2013 and were approved in February 2015. The The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE ) issued its record of decision and wetlands permit in January 2015. The Approximate cost to develop the project is US$900 million (gross) and production from the development has been estimated at 30,000 BOPD (gross).
In November 2015, ConocoPhillips announced that GMT1 had been approved for final funding. Construction is set to begin in early 2017 and continue through 2018 with first oil planned for late 2018. GMT1 will be the first drill site on federal leases within the NPR-A.
Willow Discovery
In 2017 a new oil discovery in the Greater Mooses Tooth (GMT) was made. Apraisal of the discovery will commence in January 2017 with the acquisition of state-of-the-art 3D seismic. Subject to appraisal results and the choice of development scenario, Willow could produce up to 100,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). Assuming timely permit approvals and competitive project economics, initial commercial production could occur as early as 2023.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), ASRC and Kuukpik Corporation share land and mineral rights for the overall project.
