Energy XXI uncovered 70 feet of net oil pay with its Stricker exploration well at West Delta 30 in the US Gulf of Mexico. The probe – its first since acquiring the long-producing patch three years ago – had found pay in six different reservoirs, five of which were previously untested and are new discoveries. Drilled to a total vertical depth of 5168 feet, the well is now being sidetracked down-dip to delineate the size of the finds and potentially hit incremental pay. Situated 21 miles off Grand Isle, Louisiana in 45 feet of water, West Delta 30 saw its first discovery in 1948 by Humble Oil and has since seen total historic output of 580 million barrels of oil and 933 billion cubic feet of gas.
