Contango Oil & Gas had struck hydrocarbons at an exploration well at its South Timbalier 17 prospect off Louisiana, Gulf of Mexico, USA. The well was drilled to a total measured depth of around 11,400 feet and wireline logs indicate the presence of hydrocarbons. Estimated reserves and production rates will be dependent upon the liquids content of the formation, which will be better defined once complete and test the well. The well will cost around US$12.5 million to drill, complete and bring to full production.
