The Fort Hills oil sands project is located approximately 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray in northern Alberta. Engineering studies are ongoing to update the design basis for the project and improve the accuracy of cost estimates to facilitate a project sanction decision by the partners in 2013. Suncor, operator of Fort Hills, has indicated that it is developing a cost-driven construction schedule and as a result, should the partners approve the sanction of phase one of the Fort Hills project in 2013, production would not be expected to start before 2017.
Contractors have started preliminary earthwork at the Fort Hills Oil Sands project in Alberta. Fort Hills Energy Corporation (Fort McMurray, Alberta) made a go/no-go decision for the US$8 billion Fort Hills Oil Sands mine during the second half of 2013 and initiated preliminary earthwork at the site. It is estimated to contain more than four billion barrels of bitumen resource.

Honeywell Process Solutions: Contract to provide automation systems suppling technology to integrate the site\'s control and safety systems, manage alarms, and provide advanced simulation software that enables critical operations planning and operator training
Fluor Corp.: US$1.3 billion engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction contract for the utilities scope of the Fort Hills oil sands mining project
