Project Profile

Location: Montana state, approximately 12 miles east of Billings, USA
Production: 10 million standard cubic feet per day (283,200 cubic metres)
Start-up Year: -

The Hereford gas field is located in Montana approximately 12 miles east of Billings in USA. A discovery well has been completed as a gas producer. The reservoir gas composition is made up of approximately 42% methane and 58% nitrogen with a small component of helium. This composition supports combustion but with a heating value approximately half that of natural gas. The limited testing of the discovery well suggests it would be capable of a production rate of approximately 10 million standard cubic feet per day.

Desk top studies undertaken by WorleyParsons indicate the most appropriate utilisation of the Hereford gas would be in power generation. Preliminary discussions have taken place with a utility supply company with a view to forming an alliance/joint venture in which Hereford gas would be used as fuel for modularised power generation units, initially starting with two units and expanding to a capacity to match local market demand for power and as the Hereford reserves are proven. Should the project proceed, environmental approvals for the facilities are expected to take at least 12 months.
