Project Profile

Location: Litoral de Tabasco area, southwestern part of the Campeche Sound, southern part of the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico
Reserves: 1.9 Bboe of 3P reserves and 467Mboe of 1P reserves
Water Depth: 35 metres
Discovery: 1989
Start-up Year: 2Q 2015

A set of 11 fields of light oil and condensate (30–518 API) has been discovered since 1989 in the southern part of the Gulf of Mexico, in the area known as Litoral de Tabasco. This area is in the southwestern part of the Campeche Sound, Mexico’s most important petroleum province. Maximum water depth in the Litoral de Tabasco is 35 metres and the main reservoirs are Kimmeridgian dolomitized oolitic banks and Cretaceous fractured carbonates deposited in an open platform. New three-dimensional (3-D) seismic surveys have led to new interpretations and appraisal studies that have defined properly the structure of the fields. As a result, reserves have increased from 670 to 2048 MMBOE. On the other hand, new concepts have led to a new exploration strategy in which the potential of the Tertiary siliciclastic section will be evaluated.

The Tsimin-Xux super-light oil field is one of the field in this area and was discovered in 2010 by Pemex. The company plans to drill up to 42 wells across the field, which it expects will continue to produce until end-2040. Tsimin-Xux has 1.9Bboe of 3P reserves and 467Mboe of 1P reserves. Pemex owns and operates the project with 100% interest. Dragados Offshore SA/Dragados Offshore Mexico SA de CV was awarded a contract for transportation and installation of the PEMEX Litoral Tabasco Quarters Platform HA-LT-01, located in the Bay of Campeche offshore Mexico. The platform was installed in 2012 in 85 feet (26 metres) of water. The scope of work comprises transportation and installation of the jackets, fully integrated single-piece topsides weighing nearly 4,500 tons, and one bridge per platform connecting to existing facilities. Work also includes the engineering, procurement and project management. The project is currently being developed. Engineering work is slated to begin in early 2013 and full completion is expected during the second quarter of 2015.
