Black Swan Energy has spudded its first Duvernay shale well in Rimbey, Alberta. The well is a commitment vertical test well to evaluate the Duvernay formation and is being drilled to a planned depth of 3,300 metres. Drilling was anticipated to take about 35 days, after which the well will be cored and the results will be evaluated over several months. Following this, Black Swan is expected to make a decision whether to drill out a horizontal well from the vertical location.
Black Swan operates the block in a joint venture with Transerv and other Australian explorers, Tamaska Oil & Gas and Mako Hydrocarbons, which are being free-carried during the drilling of the well.
