Project Profile

Value: US$341 million
Location: Pennsylvania and New Jersey
Capacity of compressor: 25,000 horsepower
Length: 12 miles (addition)
Start-up Year: November 2013

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has approved Williams Partners’ proposal to expand its Transco natural gas pipeline to provide an additional 250,000 dekatherms of incremental firm natural gas transportation capacity to serve growing markets in the Northeast by November 2013. The project named Northeast Supply Link project is designed to expand the Transco Leidy Line and Transco mainline in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to transport domestic supplies of natural gas to growing northeastern markets. The expansion project will primarily consist of approximately 12 miles of new pipe at various locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. One of the premier interstate natural gas pipelines in the United States, Transco is a 10,000-mile natural gas pipeline system that extends from Texas to the New York City metropolitan area. The system serves customers in Texas plus 12 Southeast and Atlantic seaboard states, including major metropolitan areas in Georgia, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. In addition, a new 25,000 horsepower compressor facility in Essex County, N.J., along with other facility modifications will be built. The capital cost of the entire project is estimated to be US$341 million. The Northeast Supply Link expansion will provide incremental firm transportation capacity from receipt points on the Leidy Line to New York City and Transco\'s Station 210 in New Jersey. Most of the new pipe will be installed either entirely within or parallel to existing pipeline and utility rights-of-way. The project was completed and came into service in November 2013.

Williams is now developing the Northeast Supply Enhancement project to expand the existing Transco facilities to provide consumers access to an additional 400 mmcf of natural gas per day (enough natural gas to serve the daily needs of about 2.3 million homes) in time for the 2019/2020 winter heating season.
