Project Profile

Value: US$10 billion
Location: Sabine Pass, Texas, USA
Pipeline capacity: 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day
Terminal capacity: 15.6 million metric tons of LNG per year or 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day
Length pipeline: 69 miles
Start-up Year: 2Q 2010

Among the largest terminals in the world, the Golden Pass LNG Terminal was ready to receive LNG in the second half of 2010. The Golden Pass LNG Terminal near Sabine Pass, Texas, is owned by Golden Pass LNG, a joint venture formed by: Qatar Petroleum (70%), ExxonMobil (17.6%) and ConocoPhillips (12.4%). The terminal is capable of importing 15.6 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year, or approximately 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, through its dual berth ship docks. With two processing trains and advanced vaporization systems, the terminal can send out 2.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day into the Golden Pass pipeline to meet needs of customers, providing them with maximum flexibility. The Port Arthur area serves as an excellent location for an LNG receiving terminal because it is one of a few deepwater ports along the Gulf Coast suitable for importing LNG.

The Golden Pass LNG Terminal is supplied primarily by gas produced from Qatar’s North Field in the Arabian Gulf, the largest non-associated gas field in the world. Natural gas is produced from subsurface gas reservoirs through two off-shore platforms and then liquefied at on-shore liquefaction facilities called trains, supplying the Golden Pass LNG Terminal. The associated Golden Pass Pipeline is a 69-mile long, FERC-regulated interstate pipeline originating at the Golden Pass LNG Terminal in Sabine Pass, Texas. The pipeline is capable of transporting an average of 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. With nine interconnects to intrastate and interstate pipelines, the pipeline provides access to major markets, connecting to both the Houston Ship Channel and major interstate pipelines servicing the Gulf Coast, and midwestern and northeastern United States. The associated Golden Pass pipeline provides customers access to the major Gulf Coast markets servicing both the Houston Ship Channel and major interstate pipelines extending into the northeastern and midwestern United States. The pipeline was designed to provide maximum flexibility for customers.
