Project Profile
Value: Undisclosed
Location: Offshore in the Gulf of Tunis
Reserves: Unknown
Water Depth: 4,500 feet (1,400 metres)
Area: 2,792 sq km
The Grombalia permit (offshore in the Gulf of Tunis) covers an area of 2,792 sq.kms and has a proven petroleum system with the Tertiary Bou Dabbous and/or Cenomanian Bahloul limestones and Fadhene shales as source rock and the fractured Bou Dabbous and Campanian Abboid limestones as reservoirs. These have proven historically to be good for production within structurally controlled faulted closures. In addition within the permit area there is a shallow water area located just offshore in the Gulf of Tunis in around 15m of water. This area contains a large anticline elongated north east-south west, and is fault bounded parallel to the coast. The main reservoir objective is the Eocene fractured limestones of the Bou Dabbous formation. This prospect is also located in an ideal position to receive any hydrocarbon generated in the Grombalia graben to the south and west, which is considered as the main kitchen in the area.
The partners include Exxoil Tunisie Ltd (65% working interest and operator) and Circle (35% working interest). Preparations are now underway (July 2012) to drill exploration well Bou Argoub-1 (BAB-1) in the South West Belli area of the Grombalia Permit, near to the Belli, El Manzah and Beni Khaled fields. It is expected that the drilling of this well will commence early in the second half of 2012. The BAB-1 well will have an expected TD of 4,429 feet (1,350 metres) and is targeting a fault-bounded structural culmination crossing two vertically stacked fractured carbonate reservoirs, the Eocene Bou Dabbous Formation and the Late Cretaceous Abiod Formation. These are the main oil-producing formations in the north eastern part of Tunisia.
