The Simonette Gas Complex is located in Alberta’s west country – approximately 120 kilometres northwest of the town of Edson. The plant offers a full range of gas processing services including sweet and sour gas processing capacity, and natural gas liquids extractions capabilities. It receives its raw gas to process from numerous wells connected by an extensive network of pipelines. The raw inlet capacity is 4,225 103m3/day maximum, while the sulphur license capacity is 120 tonnes/day. There are a number of connected gathering pipelines including the North Cabin Pipeline, Soloman and Cabin Creek Pipeline, Finley Pipeline and the Lynx Pipeline operated by Talisman Energy.
The Simonette Gas Complex was constructed in 1969 by Shell Canada and was purchased by Suncor Energy in 1992. In 2005, ConnocoPhillips Canada became a working interest partner, while a first facility expansion was completed in 2005. Keyera became the operator of the complex in December 1, 2010 after a two-part acquisition of the Plant. The next turnaround is scheduled for 2013. In August 2015, Keyera completed capacity expansion projects at the Simonette plant, including the addition of a 10,000-b/d condensate stabilization plant at the site to handle rising western Canadian natural gas production coming from the Montney geological horizon, as well as a 100-MMcfd expansion of the plant’s overall raw gas handling capacity to 250 MMcfd.
