Storage capacity: 160,000 cubic metres LNG storage tank
Send out capacity: 33.9 billion cubic metres of gas per year
The EcoElectrica project was completed in 2000 and included the construction of an LNG Terminal located in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico. The terminal has a storage capacity of 160,000 cubic metres LNG storage tank and a send out capacity of 33.9 billion cubic metres of gas per year. The terminal supplies a 540-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant that accounts for about 20% of the electricity generated on the island. EcoElectrica started as a joint venture between Enron and Edison Mission Energy (Edison Mission Group). Pitt-Des Moines Inc (PDM) is the prime EPC contractor and the overall contractor was Enron Engineering and Construction Company. Spanish gas distributor Gas Natural SDG (Gas Natural Fenosa) signed a deal with bankrupt Enron to buy its 50% stake on the LNG terminal.
