Marathon gas/condensate field, or Atchafalaya Bay field, is a gas field located in the shallow waters of the Atchafalaya Bay along the Louisiana Gulf Coast in USA. It comprises four proven gas and condensate reservoirs, each with differing geological and engineering specifications. Operations begun in April 2012 and the target is to install a pipeline that will enable a large increase in production from Marathon gas-condensate field in Atchafalaya Bay off Louisiana. The US$3 million pipeline, was slated to increase the field’s production capacity to 50-60 MMcfd by 2012.

Petsec Energy drilled in the first quarter of 2012 the third well and has reached 14,700 feet (4,480 metres) measured depth and has set 9 5/8 inch protective casing. The well, which spud on 4 March 2012, serves as a further development well for the field and with similar productive capacity to the initial two wells. It is expected to take a further 6 weeks to reach total depth, log and complete the well. The field includes as well the construction of a pipeline.

By the end of 2013, the field had been expanded from three producing wells to five, with upgraded production facilities and pipelines. One of the wells, SL 20369 #3, tested at 41.5 mmcf per day plus 136 barrels of oil. A group of private companies led by Phoenix Exploration Co have 43.25% working interest in the field, and Apache Corp. operates the field with 48.75%. Petsec Energy held 8% interest in the wells and pipeline until July 2014, when it sold the assets as part of a US$37 million deal with an unnamed, privately-held U.S E & P company.

Operators:

Apache Corp: Operator with 48.75% interest

Phoenix Exploration Co: 43.25% interest

Unnamed US E&P Company: 8% interest
