The Tibisti Field is located in the middle of the Sirte basin covering an area of about 3,000 sq km and is surrounded by many oil fields operated by other companies. Harouge Oil Operations started exploration in concession 13 in 1960 and started to producing oil in 1964 to reach 70,000 BOPD in 1965. The light oil produced from the Tibisti field is of a very high quality, with a gravity rating of between 40 -54 degrees API. The oil is mainly produced with electrical submersible pumps and sucker rod pumps. Additionally, some 4,000 BOPD of crude is pumped from Dor Marada, which is operated by Sirte Oil Company, to Tibisti. The blended production is then pumped from Tibisti to Ras Lanuf Terminal.
