Project Profile
Value: undisclosed
Location: Alaminos Canyon Blocks 903, 904 and 947
Reserves: 53 to 101 MMbbl of oil together with 55 to 105 Bcf of associated gas
Water Depth: 2,953m/ 9,745 feet
Discovery date: July 2001
Located on Alaminos Canyon Blocks 903, 904 and 947 in water depths of up to 9,686 feet (2,953 metres), Trident was discovered in July 2001 by a wildcat well drilled by the Discoverer Spirit. Encountering more than 300 feet (91 meters) of hydrocarbons, the well set a world record at the time it was drilled for its water depth: 9,687 feet (2,953 meters). Drilled to a total depth of 20,500 feet (6,248 meters), the well took 66 days to complete and cost US$34 million. An appraisal drilling program was carried out in 2002.
Trident reservoirs are from the Lower Teritary Trend, deposited approximately 65 million to 23 million years ago.
In March 2009, Trident was acquired by Rocksource with hopes to tie-back the development to the nearby Perdido hub. However, in November 2010, the operator received a third party review of resources of the field, suggesting the field could support a stand-alone development. It is estimated that the volume of gross recoverable resources in the Upper Wilcox formation at Trident could vary from 53 to 101 MMbbl of oil together with 55 to 105 Bcf of associated gas, with the best combined estimate being 90 MMboe (76 MMbbl oil and 79 Bcf gas).
