Project Profile

Value: US$1,300 million
Reserves: 300 million barrels of gross recoverable oil
Location: Athabasca oil sands in northeast Alberta
Capacity: 35,000 bpd each phase
Start-up Year: Phase 1 (2007), Phase 2 (2011), Phase 3 (2014)

Jackfish Projects are located approximately 15 km (10 miles) southeast of Conklin, Alberta, and Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) is the technology that is being used to extract the bitumen over the life of the projects.

The three phases have capacity of 35,000 bpd each. Thermal heavy oil is produced with steam generated from saline water and no use of fresh water. The saline water originates from a deep aquifer and is recycled, resulting in low volumes of wastewater.

Jackfish 1

Devon\'s original Jackfish project continues to produce near facility capacity and is among the best performing SAGD projects in the industry with high per well production rates, a low steam-oil-ratio and industry-leading operating costs.

Jackfish 2

Jackfish 2 began producing in June of 2011. Devon expects to reach full production capacity at Jackfish 2 of 35,000 bpd in late 2012.

Jackfish 3

Once fully operational, Jackfish 3 is expected to produce an average of 35,000 bpd before royalties. Like Jackfish 1 & 2, Jackfish 3 represents an estimated 300 million barrels of gross recoverable oil. Devon expects to deploy approximately US$1.3 billion of capital on Jackfish 3 through startup.
