The Houston Ship Channel terminal project is located in Houston Ship Channel, in Houston, Texas, USA and will have a capacity of 6.6 million barrels for handling residual fuel and other black oils. The initial phase of the project currently includes construction of 52 storage tanks. Terminal service agreements and/or letters of intent have been executed with customers for almost all of the capacity. It is estimated that the project will cost approximately US$400 million. Construction of the tanks is expected to begin this year upon completion of binding definitive customer agreements. The project will employ approximately 450 local contractors during construction and about 75 full-time employees will be needed to operate the facility once it is completed. The terminal will be located at mile marker 43 on the Houston Ship Channel and will initially be a water-in and water-out facility with the capability of handling ships with large drafts up to 45 feet.
Kinder Morgan energy partners, L.P Announced on the 7 th October 2013 that commercial operations are underway for phase one at the Battleground Oil Specialty Terminal Company, LLC (BOSTCO) project on the Houston Ship Channel. Around 20 of the 51 storage tanks built during phase one construction are being put into service this month, and the remaining tanks will become operational during the next six months. A two-berth ship dock and 12 barge berths are also scheduled to be operational this month. A joint venture of KMP (which owns a 55 percent interest in and will operate the facility) and TransMontaigne Partners L.P. (NYSE: TLP), the almost $500 million BOSTCO terminal is fully subscribed for a total capacity of 7.1 million barrels (including the phase two expansion) and has the capacity to handle ultra low sulfur diesel, residual fuels and other black oil terminal services. Phase two should also begin service in the fourth quarter 2014, which will add six 150,000-barrel, ultra low sulfur diesel tanks. With the addition of high speed loading rates of 25,000 barrels per hour from an additional pipeline. This project is estimated to cost $30.7 US.
