Project Profile
Location: Sections 18 and 19, Township 82, Range 11 W4M, eight kilometres east of Pod One, 80 kilometres south of Fort McMurray and 370 kilometres north of Edmonton
Area: Approximately eight sections (5,120 acres or 2,048 hectares)
Algar is Connacher\'s second steam-assisted gravity drainage (“SAGD”) thermal recovery oil sands project. Algar has a steam generation design capacity of 30,000 bbl/d, which, at its long-term target operating SOR of 3.0, is anticipated to facilitate production of approximately 10,000 bbl/d of bitumen over a project life of more than 25 years, before provision for turnarounds and minor interruptions. Algar is located at Great Divide, eight kilometres east of Pod One.
Connacher actively incorporates innovation in its SAGD practices. A total of three high temperature downhole pumps are planned for installation at Algar in 2011. The downhole pumps help manage reservoir pressure and are effective at reducing steam-oil ratios. The 2011 growth capex for Algar also includes the introduction of a solvent plus steam pilot into one well pad. In addition to reducing the steam-oil ratio, the injected solvent, once it dissolves and diffuses into the bitumen reservoir, is expected to increase both productive recovery rates and reservoir recovery rates. If successful, the process will be gradually implemented on other pads at Algar.
Algar is located in Sections 18 and 19, Township 82, Range 11 W4M and is situated approximately eight kilometres east of Pod One, 80 kilometres south of Fort McMurray and 370 kilometres north of Edmonton. The Algar project area covers approximately eight sections (5,120 acres or 2,048 hectares). Highway 63, together with pipelines and utility rights of-way, run southwest to northeast approximately eight kilometres west of the Algar project area.
