Project Profile

Value: US$6,500 million
Location: Cameron Parish, Sabine Pass River, Louisiana
Production capacity: ~4.5 mtpa of LNG (each train)
Start-up Year: Trains 1 and 2 by March and June in 2016,Trains 3 and 4 April and August 2017.
First cargo shipped: Feb 2016

The Sabine Pass facility is located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, on an area of 853 acres. The facility consists of a 40ft ship channel 3.7mi from the coast and has five LNG storage tanks with approximately 17bcf storage capacity, 4.3bcf/d peak regasification capacity and 5.3bcf/d of pipeline interconnection to the US pipeline network. North America\'s first natural gas liquefaction facilities will be built at Cheniere Energy\'s Sabine Pass LNG facility in Louisiana. Cheniere anticipates investing US$6.5 billion to expand the LNG facility. The Sabine Pass liquefaction facility is the first of its kind to ship U.S. shale gas overseas, exported 10.01 billion cubic feet of domestically produced LNG in April 2016.

Expansion

The expansion comprises up to four liquefaction trains with 6 GE LM2500+G4 gas turbine driven refrigerant compressors per train. The expansion also proposes a sixth storage tank. The addition will make the Sabine Pass facility the first to have bi-directional terminals that can import and export LNG. The operator plans to construct two 3.5 million tonnes per annum units in the first phase using ConocoPhillips Optimized Cascade liquefaction technology. The two trains may later be expanded to produce 14 mtpa. A pipeline interconnector will also link the terminal to the Haynesville Shale play in northwest Louisiana and will convert natural gas mined there and at other unconventional shale plays in the area. The planned completion for Trains 1 and 2 are by March and June in 2016, respectively. Trains 3 and 4 targeted substantial completion dates are April and August 2017. It is expected that the first cargo will leave the facility during January 2016. Feed gas is expected to start flowing into the facility during December 2016.

Cheniere shipped the first cargo from Sabine Pass Train 1 in February 2016. Substantial completion of Train 1 has been completed on 27/05/2016 with first commercial delivery expected to occur in November 2016 when the 20-year LNG sales and purchase agreement with Shell commences. Stage 1 overall project completion is 98.8% against the plan of 99.8% while overall project completion for Stage 2 is 86% against the plan of 94.2%. The majority of work remaining on Train 2 relates to piping insulation and completion of punchlist items.  (June, 2016)

Cheniere is developing and constructing up to six liquefaction trains at Sabine Pass. Trains 1 and 2 at the LNG export plant achieved substantial completion in May and September 2016, respectfully, while Train 3 is undergoing commissioning. Trains 4 and 5 are under construction, and Train 6 is fully permitted. (September, 2016)
