Project Profile
Value: US$500 million
Location: Green Canyon Block 643
Start-up Year: 2012
Water Depth: 3,799 feet (1,158 metres)
The Friesian 2 offset well located in the Green Canyon Block 643, about 3,300ft (1,006m) south of the discovery well Friesian 1. Friesian 2 is operated by Plains and has been drilled to a depth of 28,989ft (8,835m) and encountered 389ft (119m) of oil saturated Miocene aged sands. Friesian, in Green Canyon Block 599, is expected to be a multi-well subsea tie-back to an existing host facility. EPP is considering a deepwater hub with the Friesian field supplying at least the first 40,000 bpd of capacity to the proposed hub.
On March 30, 2009, PXP submitted an exploration plan to drill, log and temporary abandon three wells, C, D and E on the field. The Ocean Monarch semisub moved on location May 5, 2009, and commenced drilling well location D on May 6, 2009. Drilling of the first well should last 175 days. The semisub will then move to well location E on Oct. 31, 2009, and drill until April 23, 2010. Well C will commence drilling on April 26, 2010, and it will last for 175 days. The rig is scheduled to stay on location until Oct. 17, 2010.
