Project Profile
Value: US$325 million
Location: Tioga, North Dakota, USA
Capacity: 250 MMSmmscf/d
Completion: November 2013
The Tioga Natural Gas Plant is loacated in Tioga, North Dakota, USA. The Tioga Gas Plant was built in 1954, just three years after the company drilled the very first oil well in the state of North Dakota.Tioga is the state’s oldest and largest plant that processes natural gas produced from the Bakken formation. The project converted the existing lean oil absorption plant into a cryogenic gas processing plant that doubled production capacity and allowed greater separation of natural gas liquids (NGL). Multiple disciplines merged together as one team to execute this multi-scope project. Hess completed a major upgrade to the Tioga plant in 2014, bringing the total processing capacity to 250 million cubic feet per day. The expanded plant, which services natural gas produced from the Bakken tight-oil formation, now operates and processes about 120 MMcfd. Output is expected to ramp-up to 250 MMcfd. The expansion of the Tioga plant reduced the amount of gas flared at Hess’s Bakken operations to 15-20% from about 25% before the plant was shut down for construction work. JH Kelly was given the Pipe Fabrication package for the entire upgrade and BOP work. Project was completed in November 2013. The Tioga project team is expected to peak at 150 personnel.
