Project Profile
Value: US$190 million
Location: 40 miles west of Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska
Start-up Year: 2014
Upstream Oil Reserves: 330 million bbl
890,000 acre project area. Proposed oilfield development of 5 small to medium-sized oil/gas accumulations. The projects are called satellites because they will rely on the existing infrastructure of the Alpine field. Two of the oil and gas accumulations (FIORD/CD-3 and NANUQ/CD-4) are on state-owned lands, one (ALPINE WEST/CD-5) is on land owned by Arctic Slope Regional Corp. and two (LOOKOUT/CD-6 and SPARK/CD-7) are on lands within the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska that are owned by the federal government. QANNIK will be developed from CD-2 by late 2008.
The development would be phased, with the first commercial production from new pads in the Colville Delta in 2006. The first commercial production from the NPR-A could occur in 2008.
Altogether the fields are estimated to contain over 330 million barrels of oil. Plan calls for 20-30 wells on each of the five new pads pad and for transferring unprocessed, three-phase (oil, gas and water) drilling product to its Alpine Central Processing Facility.
*First field: Fiord. 17 wells, developed exclusively with horizontal well technology and will employ enhanced oil recovery. Peak production 22,500 bpd of oil in 2008 (online).
*Second field: Nanuq. 19 wells, developed by horizontal drilling, enhanced oil recovery through oil and gas injection. Peak production 15,000 bpd oil in 2008 (online).
Production from Fiord and Nanuq will be processed through the existing Alpine facilities. Together, the two fields represent approximately US$650 million in capital reinvestment.
*Third field: Qannik. US$200M. 8 wells, developed exclusively with horizontal well technology and employs water injection to enhance oil recovery. The development was built as an extension of the Alpine CD2 drill site, and will be processed through the existing Alpine facilities. Peak production of 4,000 bpd in 2009. (online)
*Fourth field: Alpine West/CD-5. 33 wells. Expected completion Q4 2012.
*Fifth field: Lookout. Start-up 2014+. (See Greater Mooses Tooth project)
*Sixth field: Fiord West. Start-up 2014+. Could be 20-25 horizontal wells drilled from a gravel pad upsized to accommodate 39 wells, with an injection method of miscible water-althernating-gas.
