Project Profile
Value: US$450 million
Location: Walker Ridge Block 52 in the Gulf of Mexico
Water Depth: 1,772 m
Start-up Year: 2017
Located on Walker Ridge Block 52 in the Gulf of Mexico is the Shenandoah oil field, situated in 5,814 feet (1,772 metres) of water. Serving as operator and holding a 30% interest is Anadarko, ConocoPhillips holds 40%, Cobalt holds 20%, and Marathon holds the remaining 10% interest. In May 2008, Anadarko leased the Noble Paul Romano semisub to spud the WR52 No. 1 well, which was expected to take 200 days. Due to mooring issues while drilling, the well took longer than expected to reach its total depth of 31,000 feet (9,449 metres). However, in February 2009, a discovery was made on its Shenandoah prospect, when net oil pay hit 300 feet (91 metres) in the Wilcox formation. The operator is currently drilling Anadarko\'s Shenandoah appraisal well. The well has a proposed depth of 32,000 feet.
