An oil discovery, Samurai, was found on June 24, 2009 on the Green Canyon Block 432 in the Gulf of Mexico. The Belford Dolphin drillship drilled the well in approximately 3,400 feet of water and reached a total depth of 31,700 feet. The well encountered in excess of 120 feet of net pay in high quality Miocene Sands.
Anadarko is the operator of Samurai holding a 33.33% interest in the prospect. Partners in the discovery are Murphy Oil Corporation (33.33%) and Samson Offshore Co. (33.33%). The company expects to drill a sidetrack appraisal well within the next year, and if the prospect is proven commercially viable, Samurai will be tied-back to the Marco Polo TLP.
