The Foothills of the Brooks Range potentially hold between 2 trillion and 10 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The preliminary estimate covers the Gubik, Chandler, and Umiat prospects. Gubik is estimated to have 600 Bcf. The field contains dry gas. Enstar is also considering building a bullet gas line from the foothills to Anchorage. The line would guarantee a market for Gubik gas.
Umiat Oil field
Umiat is in the western foothills/foldbelt province of the North Slope foothills on two leases managed by the US Bureau of Land Management and one state lease. Linc Energy acquired an 84.5% interest in Renaissance Umiat LLC, which owns a 100% working interest and 80% net revenue interest in the Umiat project, for US$50 million. Demobilisation from the Umiat field is expected to begin in late April 2013 following the completion of the winter drilling programme in 2013.
