Start-up Year: 2014
Water Depth: 7,000 feet of water
Upstream Gas Reserves: 1,000 billion ft³
The Lucius field indicates thick reservoir sands with very good porosity and permeability. The discovery well hit more than 200 feet of net pay in sub-salt in Pliocene and Miocene sands. Lucius is in 7,100 feet of water and is expected to be developed using a truss spar. The truss spar is to be a cylindrical hard tank with the truss extending beneath to the keel for lighter weight. It will also be configured for hosting subsea completions. In 2015, production started at the Lucius field in the Gulf of Mexico deepwater, 240 miles south of the Louisiana coast, United States. Lucius has a production secured through 6 subsea wells tied back to a moored production handling spar connected to the shore via dedicated oil and gas pipelines. The spar has a design capacity of 80,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 450 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas. The Lucius field was discovered in November 2009 and the subsequent development project was sanctioned in late 2011.

Freudenberg Oil & Gas Technologies: Freudenberg Oil & Gas Technologies has been awarded a contract by Anadarko providing an industry-first to Anadarko’s Lucius spar development with its diverless pulling head and riserless installation tool. The technology was designed as a result of the Houston-based operator’s initiative to remove saturation diving. Under the scope of the contract, Freudenberg supplied two ROV-operated pilling heads and four of its Vector Optima vertical connection systems attached to two tie-in spools. (March 2016)
