Start-up Year: 1Q 2013
The Bakken Pipeline Project includes the extension of the existing Bakken pipeline running between Berthold, North Dakota in the US and Saskatchewan in Canada. Construction of the pipeline is expected to begin in 2012 and be completed in the first quarter of 2013. The project is divided into two parts, Bakken Pipeline (Canada) and Bakken Pipeline (US). The Canadian portion includes expansion of the capacity of Bakken pipeline to 145,000bpd. Capacity of the pipeline will be expandable, eventually to 325,000bpd. Texas-based ENGlobal carried out the engineering and design studies for the project. ENGlobal was responsible for the development of land plots, creation of plant piping and instrumentation diagrams and project tracking. The company used its geographic information systems (GIS) software for tracking the project. The total project cost is estimated around US$200 million.
Enbridge Bakken Pipeline Limited Partnership, (Enbridge Bakken), a subsidiary of the Enbridge Income Fund, is extending the existing pipeline (running from Berthold, North Dakota to Steelman, Saskatchewan) by constructing 124 kilometres (77 miles) of 406 mm (16-inch) diameter pipeline from a new terminal near Steelman, Saskatchewan, to the Enbridge Pipelines Inc. mainline Terminal near Cromer, Manitoba. In addition to the 124 km of new pipeline, the project scope also includes the installation of new pumps and associated equipment, and utility upgrades at the Steelman Terminal. The new completed pipeline will carry crude oil from Berthold, North Dakota to Cromer, Manitoba where crude volumes can then access the Enbridge mainline pipeline system serving the U.S. Midwest, Midcontinent and eastern Canada.
