Project Profile

Value: US$ 50-100 millon (estimate)
Location: Southwest from the Keyera Rimbey gas plant
Start-up Year: 2011
Length: 45 kilometre (expansion 25 Km)
Capacity: 40 MMcf/d

In 2011, Keyera constructed the Carlos Pipeline, a 45 kilometre, gas gathering pipeline from the Hoadley region of central Alberta into the Rimbey gas plant. During the construction phase, Environmental Specialists learned of a clubroot infestation along the pipeline route. Clubroot is a common soil borne disease that can cause the formation of large galls on a plant\'s roots. The formations impede nutrient and water uptake and can cause plant death. Clubroot is easily transferred between sections of land by wind, water and tools/machinery.

In 2013 the operator, Keyera Corp expanded the Carlos pipeline. Keyera purchased a new 8-inch, 10-kilometre gathering pipeline. This was then tied-in to the current Carlos pipeline. Advanced engineering work took place on pipeline connections from the Carlos pipeline to other existing pipelines; to facilitate the delivery of incremental volumes to the Rimbey gas plant. Raw gas and condensate was delivered to the Rimbey gas plant in the second quarter of 2014.

In 2014 the Carlos pipeline offload project took place. This included the construction of an 8-inch raw gas gathering pipeline and a 6-inch condensate pipeline to increase the capacity of the Carlos Pipeline by approximately 40 MMcf/d; in response to producer demand. These pipelines are approximately 25-kilometres in length, were completed in 2014 and cost US$49 million.
