Project Profile
Value: US$8 billion
Location: 65 km off the Capo Delgado coast
Reserves: 450bcm (16 TCF) of gas in place
FLNG capacity: 3.4 million tonnes per year
Water depth: 2,261 m
Start-up year: 2022
Eni made a giant gas find at Coral 1 prospect in Area 4 off Mozambique. Drilled to a total depth of 4,869 metres, Coral 1 hit 75 metres of gas pay in single high-quality Eocene sand. The well, located 65 kilometres off the Capo Delgado coast, lies around 26 kilometres southeast of Eni’s Mamba South 1 find.
It is estimated that the Coral prospect potentially contains 7-10 trillion cubic feet of gas in place. The overall potential of Area 4 could range up to between 47 trillion and 52 trillion cubic feet of gas in place. Eni plans to run a production test on the Coral 1 discovery, with at least another five wells slated to fully establish the resource potential of Area 4.
FLNG DEVELOPMENT
The project involves the construction of 6 subsea wells connected to a floating production facility FLNG (Floating Liquefied Natural Gas), with a liquefaction capacity of over 3.3 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year, equivalent to approx. 5 billion cubic metres. Mozambique authorities approved the project development plan in February 2016. In August 2016 Eni earmarked LNG from the Phase I development of Coral to the UK-based energy giant BP.
