The new scaled down plan will involve the exploration of two wells, which will be drilled using a single drillship, the Frontier Discoverer. One of the wells will be in the located at the Sivulliq prospect and another well at the Torpedo prospect. Both of the prospects are located on the west side of Camden Bay. Sivulliq prospect and Torpedo prospect are situated in the Beaufort Sea, located near Camden Bay on Lease Block 6610, 6658, respectively, roughly 16 to 22 miles (26 - 35 km) north of the mainland. Shell wholly owns and operates the prospects.
In June 2009, Shell submitted an Exploration Plan to MMS Alaska Outer Continental Shelf proposing to drill two wells, each on the Torpedo prospect (Lease OCS-Y-1941) and the Sivulliq prospect (Lease OCS-Y-1805). Shell will be conducting vertical drilling using the ice-reinforced drillship Frontier Discoverer. While conducting drilling, the drillship will be affixed to the seafloor using 8 7-tonne Stevpris anchors arranged in a radial array. Drilling commenced on July 10th, 2010 and run through Oct. 31, 2010. On October 20, 2009, MMS approved Shell\'s plan to explore the two leases.
The leases on Sivulliq and Torpedo, have been extended to July and October 2019.
