Project Profile

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) plans to install a major effluent water treatment and injection plant between the Raudhatain and Sabriya oilfields in the North Kuwait Operations Zone with treatment capacity of 950,000 barrels per day (bpd) and injection capacity of 500,000 bpd. The project also includes installation of a network of balance tanks to receive effluent water from four of the zone’s gathering centres. Treated water will be injected into 150 wells through around 250 kilometres of pipelines. Award of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was delayed after bids in February 2015 were substantially above KOC’s US$300 million budget. The budget was increased to US$1 billion and the contract was awarded in September 2015.

The North Kuwait Operations Zone produces about 700,000 bpd of oil and includes the Raudhatain, Sabriya, Ratqa, Umm Niqa and Abdali fields. KOC plans to increase production from the zone to 1 million bpd by 2020 through development of heavy oil and Jurassic reserves.
