Oman 44 Project is a natural gas and condensate field located onshore, to the west of Muscat, Oman with the acreage of 1,162 square kilometres. The Project has been on commercial production since 2007; with an average output of 19 million cubic feet per day of natural gas and 904 barrel per day of condensate in the second quarter of 2016.
PTTEP successfully completed drilling 7 wells in the 4th Drilling Campaign in August 2012 without LTI throughout the campaign. The company drilled an appraisal well Shams-18 and commenced long term production well test of Shams-18 for early oil production (approximately 1,000 BPD) in September 2012. Well Shams-18 started production by late October 2012. In the same year 2012 it commenced Shams-9ST development well in Block 44 which commenced natural gas and condensate production by late December 2012. PTTEP also stared gas and condensate production from Shams-16 development well. In September 2012 the company started up Munhamir Processing Facility for crude oil production approximately 2,500 BPD.
The Operator mobilized seismic survey unit and crews to site in the Western area of block 44 in order to begin new 3D seismic acquisition by Q2’2013. The survey covered approximately 500 square kilometres. In Q3 2013 it completed 3D seismic data acquisition in the western part of block 44.
In Q4 2013 the operator started preparing for the 5th drilling campaign which planned to start during mid-2014. In Q1 2014 an artificial lift was applied to maintain well productivity and finalized the prospects potential in the block and selected the exploration and development well drilling locations, planned spud in June 2014. The company commenced the 5th drilling campaign to boost up current production and prove potential of the western exploration area in 2014. In the year 2015 PTTEP drilled 1 development well (SH-16ST) and 1 appraisal well (SH-21) and started the construction of associated production flow line from new development wells. The operator completed the construction of Shams-20 production flow line in June 2015 and also completed flow line construction of Shams-14 and Shams-21 in the end of Q3‘2015.
On 17 August 2016, PTTEP disclosed that it will sell its Oman 44 natural gas project to ARA Petroleum LLC in a shift in investments in the Middle Eastern country. The company planned to sell its wholly-owned unit PTTEP Oman Co Ltd, which holds 100% of the Oman 44 onshore project, to ARA Petroleum. The deal expected to close in early fourth quarter of 2016. The value of the sale remained undisclosed.
ARA Petroleum plans to conduct drilling and workover campaigns in 2017 and 2018 on Block 44 after acquiring PTTEP Oman Company Limited. (September, 2016)
