Capacity: 327,000 per year
Start-up Year: 2019
Salalah LPG Extraction Project is located in Dhofar, Oman and is one of the most ambitious projects in the region with high expectations. The projects purpose is to extract all propane, butane and condensate associated with the natural gas pipeline from the Salalah area. The concept for the project was brought about in 2012 by the operator, Oman Gas Company’s (OGC) in the company’s efforts to find ways for optimising the added value of gas chain. OGC signed a memorandum of understanding with Salalah Free Zone (SFZ) and Port of Salalah to build the project in 2014. In 2014-15 the project began a tender for the feed stages. There was a design evaluation discussed between two major companies, Petrofac and CB&I but OGC later awarded the FEED contact to Tecna in August 2015.
The project will now undergo detailed design, procurement and construction and from 2019 the operator aims to have the project put into the full production stage. The operation period of the project is 25 years with a guaranteed gas supply. At full capacity, the plant is expected to produce 153,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of propane, 115,000 tpa of butane and 59,000 tpa of condensate. While part of the output will go towards meeting the cooking gas needs of Dhofar Governorate, the balance will be utilised for either further downstream processing and value addition or exported to international markets.
OGC (the operator) is 100 % owned by Oman Oil Company (OOC), which is wholly owned by the government of Oman.
