The Azadegan oil field is an oil field in Iran. The field is located 80 kilometres (50 mi) west of Ahvaz close to the Iraqi border. The oil field was discovered in 1999. The first exploration well was drilled in the field in 1976, but its discovery was finalised after drilling the second well in 1999. The field has an approximate area of 900 square kilometres (350 sq mi). The Azadegan oilfield is located close to the Iraqi border. The field holds around 33.2 billion barrels of in-situ oil deposit, of which 5.2 billion barrels are recoverable. After the sanctions, Yadaravan was inaugurated on the 26th of February 2016. The North Azadegan field will add 75,000 bpd of production. Based on 2016 estimations, North Azadegan reservoir holds 5.7 billion barrels of crude. North Azadegan holds an estimated in-situ oil of 5.6 billion barrels and is to be developed in two phases each with an output capacity of 75,000 barrels a day. Total investment in developing the oilfields stands at US$2.55 billion. The North Azadegan Oil Project is operated by China’s CNPC and PEDEC.
