Location: northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi, northeastern Iran
Capacity: 20 million cubic meters of gas per day (MMcm/d)
Storage capacity: 4.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas
Start-up Year: -
The Shourijeh Gas Facility is located at the north-eastern province of Khorasan Razavi and has the capacity to store 4.8 bcm (billion cubic metres) of natural gas. Iran launched Shourijeh Gas Facility in September 2014. It is the largest gas storage facility in the Middle East. Shourjieh facility provides 20 mcm (million cubic metres) of gas storage per day in winter and 10 mcm of gas in summer. Shourijeh is built to increase Iran’s gas delivery capacity by 10 MMcm in the first phase.
Currently 7 mcm of gas per day is being injected to the facility. A total of 340 mcm of gas has already been stored in the Shourijeh storage facility. based on the Fifth Five-year Development Plan, gas storage facilities are in charge of providing enough gas to meet 14% of the country’s total consumption in cold months.
