Project Profile
Location: western Oman
Area: 8,526 sq km
Depth (drilling): 5,150 metres
Start-up Year: -
Block 31 is located in western Oman, a large area covering 3,526 square kilometres. Within this block is the Al Jariya prospect, featuring a hanging wall anticline with Cretaceous reservoir targets straddling the border between Oman and Abu Dhabi. A well was drilled on the Al Jariya prospect in 2007 and suffered a kick at 5,131 metres, about 100 metres above the Natih target. This resulted in the abandonment of the well, with the Natih and Shuaiba reservoirs remaining untested. However, plans are being formulated for a second well to be drilled in 2014.
In addition, DNO has identified a gas-condensate play to the south of the block, which is covered by 3D seismic, and which is on trend with other discoveries in the area. The Wadi Jiffra A1 well was drilled in this area in 3Q 2011 but was found to be off structure and has been suspended for further review of updip potential. Multiple look-a-like structures exist and may form a cluster development if justified. DNO is the sole owner of the block.
