Project Profile
Location: Hawler licence, Kurdistan region, North Iraq
Ain Al Safra prospect
Contingent resources (2C): 43 million barrels of oil (Lower Jurassic Alan, Mus and Adaiyah reservoirs)
Prospective resources (best): 60 million barrels of oil (Lower Jurassic Butmah reservoir)
Oryx Petroleum spudded a third exploration well (AAS-1) on the Hawler licence in Iraqi Kurdistan, targeting the Ain Al Safra oil prospect. The AAS-1 well targets deeper light oil in the lower Jurassic and Triassic and heavy oil in the Cretaceous. The expected total depth of the well is 4,220 m.
AAS-2 appraisal well was drilled to a total measured depth 3,679 m and it was suspended before testing due to security issues in the region. The well provided valuable reservoir data which improved volume estimate. (August, 2014)
Banan Prospect
Reserves (2P): 98 million barrels of oil
Contingent resources (2C): 75 million barrels of oil
Prospective resources (best): 52 million barrels of oil
Ain Al Safra prospect has a separate field development while the Banan prospect is part of one phased field development shared with Demir Dagh and Zey Gawra.
