Bahrain Petroleum Co. (BAPCO) and Saudi Aramco are jointly carrying out a project to replace the existing 230,000 bpd pipeline carrying Aramco’s Arabian Light Crude from Abqaiq in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province to BAPCO’s 267,000-bpd refinery at Sitra.
The new 115-km, 30-inch pipeline will follow a route avoiding residential areas of Bahrain and have an expanded capacity of 350,000 bpd to feed the refinery’s planned expansion to 360,000 bpd. The project has been planned for many years. EPC contracts for the onshore Saudi Arabia and subsea sections and for engineering and procurement on the onshore Bahrain section were awarded in 2015.
Bids were submitted in September 2016 for the construction of the onshore Bahrain section.
