The Dubai Natural Gas Company Limited (DUGAS) owns and operates a gas processing facility and MTBE at its plant in the Jebel Ali port town, located 35 kilometres southwest of the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The company has launched an expansion project of the Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) plant. This multidisciplinary project will involve approximately 42,000 man hours. DUGAS will increase the production capacity of their MTBE plant from 500,000 to 675,000 MTA. Also the construction of additional butane/propane storage tanks and associated dedicated refrigeration system using vapor recovery compression for re-liquefaction has been scheduled. MBTE is an additive for unleaded gasoline that helps raise the octane level of gasoline by supplying additional oxygen during combustion, allowing cleaner and more complete burning and thereby reducing emissions.
