The Sindi-Amedi Exploration License is located in the Kurdistan Autonomous Region of Northern Iraq. The license area is 2,358km² and is located in the mountainous area, adjacent to the Turkish border. Perenco owned and operated the license alongside partners Oryx Petroleum.
Following 145 km of 2D seismic collected in 2013, Perenco and Oryx decided none of the identified prospects met acceptable risk-reward parameters, and concluded the licence should be relinquished
The license area had seen no previous exploration, and 2D seismic acquired in 2008 targeted large surface structures identified from satellite imagery. After intensive field work (geological surveys, gravity surveys and seismic acquisition) Perenco had identified two major exploration opportunities (Mateen and Yakamalah) along with four high potential leads (Shiranish, Amedi, Amedi North and Urah).
