Project Profile
Value: US$2 billion
Location: Persian Gulf
Water Depth: 70 metres
Start-up Year: December 2001
Production: 56MMscm/d of natural gas
The US$2 billion development came onstream end of 2001. Two identical unmanned platforms, SPD3 and SPD4, were placed in 65m of water.
In 1997, Total (40%) was awarded the second and third phases of South Pars development, along with partners Gazprom (30%) and Petronas (30%). The upstream development plan called for two offshore gas production platforms located in 70 metres of water and 20 wells, as well as 32 inch diameter 105 kilometre multiphase pipelines connecting the platforms to the onshore refinery and a 4.5 inch diameter pipeline for injecting MEG. Offshore production began in December 2001 with development drilling completed by May 2003. The daily production from these phases amounts to 2 billion cubic feet of gas and 80,000 barrels of condensate a day.
Offshore Facilities:
Two gas production platforms and recovery from 20 wells;
Two 32 inch under sea pipeline for transferring gas to the onshore refinery; and
Two 4.5 inch pipeline for injecting Mono Ethyl Glycol (MEG).
onshore Facilities:
The refineries of phases 2 and 3 have been constructed in an area of 150 hectares and include the following:
-Four gas and gas condensate receiving and separation units;
-Gas condensate stabilization unit;
-Gas sweetening unit;
-Gas dehydration unit;
-Gas dew pointing, demercaptanization and compression for transfer;
-Sulfur recovery and granulation; and
-Mono Ethyl Glycol regeneration unit.
