Project Profile

Location: Saudi Arabia - Kuwait.
Start year: 2014-2015

Total export pipeline length is 110 kilometers, with 4 kilometers onshore in Saudi Arabia, followed by 47 kilometers offshore and 57 kilometers onshore in Kuwait tied into KOC’s 25 inch gas pipelines to the downstream of KOC’s intermediate infrastructure.

Technip\'s operating center in Abu Dhabi executed the project with the Comanche vessel used to complete offshore installation work. The vessel had been held by Global Industries, which Technip acquired in late 2011. The facilities will also assist KPC / KJO in achieving one of their primary targets of 1% flaring by reducing the gas flared and additionally monetise valuable hydrocarbon resources.
The Khafji New Gas Transit pipeline was up and running by 2015.

The pipeline is designed to transport Kuwait’s 40 mmcf per day share of associated gas plus 6,000 condensate barrels from the Kafji Joint Operations Refinery. KOC has previously said that the gas pipeline could save Kuwait around US$190 million which would have been spent on alternative import infrastructure, plus around US$394 million if Kuwait had sourced the gas and condensate from a different market.
