The project involves construction of a new refinery adjacent to the existing refinery and it was approved by the Board of Directors of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) in 2006. National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company (NIOEC), which undertakes implementing infrastructural projects in the oil industry downstream sector nationwide, is the executor of this project.
It includes a new 80,000 bpd crude distillation unit to raise throughput capacity to 250,000 bpd, from 170,000 bpd previously. Gasoline production capacity was hiked from 30,000 bpd to around 100,000 bpd, while heavy crude capacity was reduced to 15,000 bpd from 38,000 bpd previously.
The contract for implementing the project worth 34 trillion rial (US$3.4 billion) was signed in 2006, based on the declared timetable the project will become fully operational in 2012 (started March 21st 2011). One unit from the 17 operational units and peripheral installations of this refinery was inaugurated in 2010 while the remaining six were anticipated before the end of 2012.
