Project Profile
Location: Ber Bahr block, Kurdistan
The block is considered highly prospective due to the recent oil discovery to the east of the licence named Shaikan and a number of oil fields to the south-west of the license such as Ain Zalah, Butmah. Bar Bahr structure is located in core of an east-west oriented anticline named Bekhair.
Satellite image analysis and surface geological mapping indicate Barbahar structure is a double plunging surface anticline approximately 10 km in length and 4 km in width. The surface expression forms a 400m positive feature in the topography, with highest elevation about 1000m amsl.
The vertical closure is controlled by a gentle syncline separating Ber Bahr and the neighbouring Lineva structure. The current seismic database some 100 km of fair to good quality in the Ber Bahr Block suggests a four way closure at subsurface. The main targets are expected to be Jurassic and Triassic carbonate sequence in the Ber Bahr anticline whereas Cretaceous carbonates will be tested as a secondary target.
