The Taq Taq field is located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, 60 km north of the giant Kirkuk oil field, 85 km southeast of Erbil and 120 km northwest of Sulaimaniyah. The licence area covers an area of approximately 235,100 acres (951 km2), which includes the Taq Taq field and Kewa Chirmila prospect. The oilfield consists of an Early Production Facility (EPF) and a Tanker Loading Station (TLS) situated approximately 9 kilometre away from the EPF. The stabilised crude from the EPF is transferred to the TLS via a 16” oil trunkline. There are currently 12 producing wells at Taq Taq, and the current production capacity of the field is 120,000 barrels per day, with plans in place to increase this to to 200,000 barrels per day in 2014.
Genel Energy has successfully completed the first well in its 2016 work programme. The Taq Taq field’s TT-27x side-track well is flowing at 3,000 barrels of oil per day after being successfully drilled and completed in the Cretaceous Shiranish reservoir. The well, which is currently in the latter stages of the post-drill clean-up phase, is within the anticipated production rate of 1,500-5,000 bopd. (July, 2016)
