Project Profile

Value: US$8,000 million
Startup Month: July
Startup Year: 2011
Upstream Gas Reserves: 9,000 billion ft³
Water Depth: 65m
Location: Central Gulfin, Khuff reservoir, Karan field, offshore Saudi Arabia

Major gas discovery in the Gulf at Karan - the kingdom\'s biggest gas field. The offshore field, which is thought to contain more than 9 trillion cubic feet of gas, was originally slated to produce 1 billion cubic feet a day (cf/d) of gas, which was raised to 1.5 billion cf/d and then again to 1.8 billion cf/d.

ONSHORE: The gas will be processed at the Manifa and Khursaniyah gas plant, where the capacity will be doubled to two billion cubic feet/day to handle Karan gas. There will be the construction of six gas processing trains with a total capacity of 795 million cf/d for high-pressure treatment, acid gas enrichment and dehydration. A 640 tonne/day sulphur recovery train, a sales gas pipeline and a compression station.

OFFSHORE: Estimated to be worth US$1.2 billion, the fabrication and installation contract entails the construction of a tie-in platform with two flares and interconnecting bridges, four wellhead and drilling platforms and a 110-km, 36-inch-diameter natural gas transportation line from Karan to Manifa in the Eastern Province. It also includes 13 km of in-field pipelines and 55 km of subsea power cables.
