Project Profile

Value: $10000 Million
Startup Year: 2018/19
Location: Al-Anbar Province, Haditha - Al-Basrah Province, Basra

The project will see the overhaul of an oil and gas pipeline.

Since being announced, the pipeline route has changed significantly to circumvent territory controlled by militants. Iraq had originally planned for it to run from Basra in the south of Iraq to the northwestern city of Haditha, and then on to Aqaba.

It will now stop at Najaf, south of Baghdad, before running close to the Iraq-Saudi border and then crossing into Jordan. The changes have added another 200-300 km to the pipeline\'s overall length.

Phase one (1.75 million bpd, was expected to to split north of Baghdad, with one line going westwards to the Syrian border and the other joining the northern export pipeline from Kirkuk to Ceyhan in Turkey. The new plans call for a total pipeline capacity of 1 million bpd.

The project will also include a natural gas pipeline to supply the pumping stations and a storage terminal and tanks in Basra, Haditha and Baiji, 200km from Baghdad.
